BREAKING News: Court Finds Orji Kalu Guilty Of N7.1bn Fraud

The Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a previous legislative leader of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, who was accused of N7.1bn misrepresentation, as per a report by Punch. 


Review that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) indicted Kalu and a previous Commissioner for Finance in the state, Ude Udeogo for extortion. 

They additionally charged Kalu close by his organization, Slok Nig. Ltd. 

In the charge brought against the respondents, the EFCC claimed that they submitted the supposed offenses between August 2001 and October 2005. 

It said that Kalu used his organization's record to hold N200 million in First Inland bank (presently First City Monument Bank). 

The commission guaranteed that the total shaped piece of assets illicitly got from the coffers of the Abia State Government. 

In one of the tallies, Kalu's organization (Slok Nig. Ltd.) and one Emeka Abone said to be everywhere, were claimed to have held in the organization's record, the aggregate of N200 million for the benefit of the ex-representative. 

In tallies one to 10, the respondents were claimed to have held about N2.5 billion having a place with the Abia. 

The EFCC said that the respondents occupied over N7.1 billion from Abia government's treasury during Kalu's residency as the senator, in contradiction of Sections 15(6), 16 and 21 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2005. 

The commission said that the offenses additionally negate the arrangements of the Money Laundering Act of 1995 as corrected.
