APC Chairman Reacts To Orji Kalu's Conviction

Blended responses from two ideological group chieftains in Abia welcomed Thursday's judgment of a Lagos High Court, which condemned the Senate Chief Whip and previous Abia representative, Sen. Orji Kalu, to 12 years in jail over N7.65 billion misrepresentation.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Donatus Nwankpa, said in a meeting with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was frustrated and irate with the judgment.

Mr. Nwankpa, who was an individual from the Abia House of Assembly when Mr. Kalu was representative, said that the judgment was not reasonable.

"The gathering will meet to take a situation on the judgment yet as an individual, I am very disheartened by the judgment.

"I am not persuaded that judgment was given," he stated, including that the court's decision supported his questions about the honesty and objectivity of the country's legal executive.

Mr. Nwankpa said that he never had the certainty that Mr. Kalu would get judgment, "thinking about the articulations of the judge."

"I'm profoundly persuaded that something turned out badly. The judgment isn't reasonable," he said.

On the other hand, the Chairman, Inter-Party Advisory Council in Abia, Ceekay Igara, portrayed the judgment as "great priority."

As indicated by him, "if Kalu was discovered needing as legislative head of the state, he should confront judgment.

"It is an ordinary thing and goes to demonstrate that no one is exempt from the laws that apply to everyone else."

Mr. Igara, who is the state Chairman of the Labor Party, said that the judgment should show two exercises.

He stated, "The principal exercise for the individuals who are in government and second for other people, who mean to take over is that whatever they do, there is constantly a day of atonement."

Maduka Okoro, the South-East Media Aide to Mr. Kalu, disclosed to NAN that Mr. Kalu would request the judgment "to permit different judges and a higher court look again at the case."

Mr. Okoro said that Kalu was not irritated by the judgment yet considered it as one of the travails that each pioneer must understanding "before turning out to be what God needs him to be."

He communicated confidence that the judgment would be turned around by a higher court, including that Mr. Kalu would be cleared finally.

He said that as a senator, Mr. Kalu controlled Abia straightforwardly and never swindled the state.

Kalu was Abia senator from 1999 to 2007 and won political decision to the Senate in the 2019 political race, after three endeavors.
