Farmer Faces Six Months Imprisonment For Killing Herdsman's Cows

A Dutse Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday, condemned a 67-year-old rancher, Samson Aku, to a quarter of a year detainment for injuring and killing a herder's dairy animals which strayed into his homestead.

The directing official, Suleiman Mohammed, condemned Aku subsequent to seeing the convict as liable of the charges documented against him.

The demonstration, as indicated by the judge, isn't legitimate.

He stated: "It is clear that the litigant brought laws into his hands, which shouldn't be, and has neglected to persuade the court with all due respect the explanation behind his activities.

"Along these lines, this court, having seen you as blameworthy of the charges brought against you, thusly sentences you to a quarter of a year in a remedial office, while in light of your age."

Mohammed, in any case, gave the convict an alternative of N25,000 fine.

The convict, an occupant of Friendship Street, SCC street in Bwari, was summoned for causing wickedness by murdering or mangling a creature.

He argued not liable to the charges.

The police examiner, Mrs. Idowu Ojo, told the court that on June 6, one Dauda Usman, a Fulani herder, and inhabitant of Zuma territory of Bwari announced the issue at the Bwari police headquarters.

Ojo said while the complainant's dairy animals were eating in the hedge behind Kogo II town in the region, they erroneously entered the litigant's ranch and ate some portion of the harvests on the field.

The investigator said the litigant, in any case, furiously utilized a blade to disfigure six cows, slaughtering four all the while, all esteemed at N360,000.

She clarified the two different cows were immediately butchered by the herder to spare himself of an all-out misfortune, in the wake of seeing that the wounds exacted on the creatures were executing them.

Ojo said that during the examination, the respondent admitted to perpetrating the wrongdoing.

As per her, the offense negated Section 329 of the Penal Code and culpable under the equivalent.
