Reports say that the couple was going to a Christmas party when the episode happened.
Fox 2 Now detailed that Maliyah Palmer was shot in the head and passed on at a close-by doctor's facility on Friday.
The two were allegedly being viewed by a 16-year-old sibling.
Florissant police reacted to the shooting at 11 p.m.
The 12-year-old allegedly found the 9mm gun inside a dresser in his parent's room and shot the weapon. His sister was close to him.
"The majority of the officers who reacted to the scene are moms and fathers, so you can just envision that it is so close to home to see a tyke shot in the back of the head.
"We will have guides here for a questioning ideally this week to ensure the psychological condition of our officers is OK," Timothy Lowery, the police boss stated, as indicated by the paper.
Specialists considered the shooting a terrible mishap and, as per The Post-Dispatch, will research and turn in proof to examiners.
Experts said before that no charges would be documented. The paper brought up that guardians have been charged in comparative cases previously.
"You couldn't have composed an increasingly disastrous content, the entire thing is simply so appalling and horrendous, yet we need to set our own emotions aside and do the law implementation side of this," Lowery stated, as indicated by the paper.
