The hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, had surveyed 254,698 votes to overcome that of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola, who surveyed 254,345 votes.
Be that as it may, because of abnormalities which damaged the race at some surveying units in Ife North, Ife South and Orolu nearby government regions, including instances of card peruser breaking down, tallying station grabbing, among others, this prompted the crossing out of 3,498 votes recorded in the influenced surveying units.
Citing INEC's Standing Rules at the commission's base camp in Osogbo, the state capital, the Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof Joseph Fowape, said since the edge between the two driving hopefuls was lower than the enrolled dropped votes, the race must be pronounced uncertain.
He expressed that a rerun would occur at the influenced surveying units on Thursday, September 27, 2018.
