According to the organizers, the summit scheduled to start between Wednesday and Friday was postponed to allow the chief host, President Muhammadu Buhari, some time to settle down in his second term.
The Global Initiative for Leadership Success, one of the organizers, said the summit was a response to the yearnings by Nigerians to seek expert solutions to the country’s security challenges.
The Chairman of GILS, Gen Abdullahi Mamman (retd.), at a briefing said the summit was to bring together top players in the security sector for “improved synergy, alertness and result.”
Mamman noted that the conference had been postponed to another date to allow the President time to attend the summit.
The general said, “As Nigerians, we cannot but be sensitive to the yearnings of our citizens for a proactive expert response to challenges before us; therefore, rather than choosing to be onlookers in the face of these pressing threats, we have resolved to be a part of the solution.
“The security summit targets top chiefs from nations of Africa who will gather in Abuja for synergy building, expertise and experience sharing. This is to stimulate fresh insights through which solutions to various security challenges will evolve.
“A conference of such nature with the desire for improved security especially in Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari must hold at the pace when he would have a direct hold on proceedings and its outcome. It is therefore crucial at this point to give the Commander-in-Chief some breather as he settles down for the fresh second term mandate.”
