They accused are Umaru Abdullahi, 35, of Tundun Dole village in the Safana Local Government Area of the state; Muazu Jika, Nashe Jika, Dahiru Jika, Bala Jika and Shadde Usman.
However, only one of the accused persons was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The police prosecutor, ASP Sani Ado, who told the court that investigation into the matter was still in progress, explained that the other accused persons were still at large and that efforts were on to apprehend them.
The offences, according to him, contravene provisions of section 97 and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, LFN, 2004, as amended as well as Section 306 of the Penal Code Law.
According to the police, members of the vigilante group at Tsaskiya in the Safana Local Government Area of the state recently arrested Abdullahi, the only member of the gang present in court.
He is strongly suspected to be a member of the gang of thieves terrorizing Tsaskiya, Hummadau and Tundun Dole in the local government area.
Abdullahi allegedly named his other accomplices during interrogation.
He was also said to have confessed that the Ak-47 rifle used by the gang for cattle rustling was with a member called Mua’azu Jika, who resides with other members in the Rugu Forest.
Abdullahi reportedly said he contributed N100,000 to purchase the rifle.
The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, adjourned the case till July 18, 2019, for mention.
She directed that Abdullahi be remanded in prison custody till then.
