US Ex-President Obama’s Anti-Racism Tweet Makes Twitter History

Barack Obama, former US president, has made Twitter history for the most-liked tweet since the microblogging platform launched in 2006....
Posted on August 13, the record-breaking tweet was in response to a white nationalist protest that led to three deaths in Charlottesville, North Carolina.
Obama’s tweet was a quote from Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography ‘Long Walk to Freedom’.

The quote which was divided into three tweets read: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

Obama accompanied the tweet with a picture of three children looking at him from the window of a daycare facility beside his daughter Sasha’s school in Maryland. The photograph was taken by Pete Souza in 2011.

The first of the tweets surpassed Ariana Grande’s post-Manchester terrorist attack message — which she posted in May after performing at a charity concert.

Grande’s tweet has 2.7 million likes while Obama’s tweet already has over 3 million likes.

Ellen Degeneres’ tweet of a selfie with movie stars from the 2014 Oscars is presently the third most liked tweet on Twitter.
