A year and a half later, Steve
Harvey is finally talking about the infamous mistake at Miss Universe 2015,
saying that he took the fall for a lot of people..
About the incident
In case you missed it, at Miss Universe in 2015
Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner on live television. He mistakenly
announced Miss Colombia instead of Miss Philippines as the new Miss Universe
titleholder. This led to him coming back on stage to correct the error on live
television and re-crown the correct woman, Pia Wurtzbach.
Since then, pageant fans from across
the globe have wondered if this was orchestrated for publicity for the
brand. Many think that the “mistake” was actually intentional so that the
pageant would make the news.
About Steve Harvey’s clarification
Almost two years later, we have
finally received a tad more clarity of what went on after the wrong results
were read. In an interview with US Weekly, Harvey said, “I took a bullet
for a lot of people and I’m a bright guy. I can read and I can hear. I read and
did what I was told.”
Harvey expressed in that
interview that the mistake was realized right away but that pageant executives
told him not to correct it then because they would correct it the following day
in the news. Harvey then told the executives that he wanted “the lady from the
Philippines” to get her crown that night so he went back on stage to correct
the error.
He still has not offered any insight
into how the results were read incorrectly that night or if it really just was
human error. Despite this, Pia Wurtzbach made a fantastic titleholder for her
year of service and continues to do great things.
