Kenyan police in Igembe North have arrested a man who forcibly circumcised his young wife on Monday.
According to SDE, the suspect is said to have physically
assaulted his spouse then circumcised her in an incident described by
the woman’s mother as a “savage” attack.
Yesterday, Igembe North police boss Peter Kimani confirmed the
suspect had been arrested by police and was waiting to face charges.
The victim’s mother said she took her daughter to Mutuati
Sub-County Hospital for medical attention and reported the matter to the
police.
“My daughter said her husband saw her on a motorcycle and
suspected her of having an affair with the rider. Later, he accosted her
on a footpath near her house and beat her up as she screamed for help,”
she said.
She said her daughter had a child aged one.
Mr Kimani said the assault followed a quarrel with the suspect, who alleged she was having love affairs outside their marriage.
According to a report made at the police station, the attacker had
in the process of attacking his wife strangled her and mutilated her
using his fingernails.
“The police later arrested him and escorted the woman to hospital,” said Kimani.
