Sara Cavazza drew inspiration from the Eighties for her fall collection for Genny, which featured stirrup pants, shoulder pads and lashings of gold embellishment. The designer riffed on her signature
Grecian goddess white-and-gold color scheme and sprinkled in some Art
Deco touches, like the geometric neckline on a black jumpsuit with
billowing lace sleeves that incorporated the letters of the brand’s
logo.
Among her more outrƩ propositions
were a lamĆ© jacket with leg-o’-mutton sleeves, or a chubby color-block
fox-fur jacket with bands of horizontal gold sequins — both of which
were fabulous in an “only in Las Vegas” way. Cavazza mashed up fabrics
and embellishments with mixed results: For instance, a fuzzy white coat
spliced with athletic-inspired panels of gold sequins was neither fish
nor fowl.
While many of her designs seemed
targeted at extroverts, some of the sportier looks could find favor with
a younger generation reared on modern-day deities like the Kardashians
and Rihanna. Short dresses — floaty or tight — worn with slouchy
knee-high boots, in particular, had a certain laid-back appeal.
