Gov Ganduje: I’ve Forgiven Kwankwaso

As part of his reconciliatory moves to cement the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, yesterday said he had forgiven Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, saying he was free to join forces with his government for a better Kano State.
Speaking through the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, Governor Ganduje said he had not only pardoned the former governor, but that all members of his Kwankwasiyya group, who he said had started coming to him, were all welcomed home.
Abbas said Ganduje’s humility and sense of belongingness had no boundary, therefore anybody who wanted to rejoin the APC was free to do so.
The APC chairman also noted that for the first time in history, the governor of Kano State was now following them to the party’s office to hold meetings as against what obtained in the state before now.
He said: “From time immemorial, the leadership of the party in Kano State used Government House as their secretariat while everything was done at the instance of the governor, but today the case had been reversed because we have a befitting party office that is lively 24 hours.”
Abbas noted that few months ago, party members, at the instance of Governor Ganduje, were taken to Sokoto State where they held a retreat on how to conduct party affairs.
“Another thing worthy mentioning was the fact that for the first time, party officials in the 44 local government areas were paid monthly allowances so as to stop them from begging and hanging on.”
Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje yesterday said he would contest the 2019 governorship election in the state to consolidate on his achievements in his first term.
He said towards this end, the people of the state had shown interest in him contesting again and had set aside a whopping N5 million to purchase his nomination form for the election.
Ganduje noted that his second coming, if fulfilled, would see the transformations of Kano to the long awaited mega city with infrastructural projects completed and commissioned.
Part of the projects set to be completed was the state’s Independent Power Project (IPP), which was due for inauguration in October this year.
Addressing journalists at the Kano State Government House as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his government, Ganduje said a contract of over N1 billion had been awarded to enhance the distribution of the power expected from the Kano IPP.
He added that the multi-billion naira Sabon-Gari Flyover would also be commissioned in October, while that of Kofar Ruwa would be completed in September.

He said: “The Gyadi-Gyadi Flyover/Underpass would be completed within nine months as the area would wear a new look by the end of this year as many capital projects would be completed before the end of the year.”
Ganduje explained that the state was blessed to fund its capital projects with Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), noting that the state was generating up to N3 billion monthly.
He regretted that less than 10 per cent of eligible revenue payers were actually paying tax in the state, assuring the people that government would continue to tax the rich in order to serve the poor.
