A mob, yesterday, lynched two brothers and one other robbery
suspect in Akure, the Ondo State capital, causing panic and tension across the
state.....
Okada riders protesting in Ondo Vanguard gathered that the suspected
bandits stole two motorcycles at gunpoint along Aratusi Street, Oke-Aro in
Akure metropolis. The deceased brothers are Femi Ojo and Segun Ojo. Their
accomplice, the third victim of jungle justice, is Taye Pius. The theft of
motorcycle used for commercial purposes had been rampant across the state in
the last one month In a swift reaction, the state Police Command warned against
jungle justice, with its spokesman, Femi Joseph, saying the Command will not
condone such act and vowed that the killers of the three suspects will be
fished out and brought to book. Mobbed However, Vanguard learned that the
suspects, after being beaten blue-black and severely injured by the youths,
were later rescued by the Police, but died on their way to the hospital. They
were about to be set ablaze when the Police detectives got to the scene and
took them away. According to Joseph, “at about 8a.m., yesterday, along Aratusi
Street in Oke-Aro, we were told that a three-man gang was caught while trying
to steal an Okada. The owner raised the alarm, which attracted some members of
the public. “In no time, a mob descended on the suspects and beat them to a
pulp. They sustained what I could describe as third degree injuries. We tried
to rush them to hospital, but they died midway.” The Police image maker said
items recovered from the suspects include a locally-made pistol and the stolen
motorcycles. He added: “They are actually robbers, but we are worried with the
jungle justice meted out to them. This is against the law. “We will apprehend
all those who participated in the jungle justice, because this is highly
condemnable and reprehensible.”
