what if a collection could be based on the heady coming together of two different worlds?
THE SCENE:A shell of a building stripped back to its concrete core and ripe for renovation.
THE COLLECTION:Valli wanted to contrast bohemian and bourgeois, rich and poor. His signature flounced gowns were dressed down with flat shoes and layered under knitted tank tops. Menswear-inspired shirts and boxer shorts were worn beneath fine, flippy mini-dresses made from sheer beaded mesh. Unisex denim - not a usual Valli element - played a part as did frilled flamenco hems. It was flamboyant but stopped short of the exaggerated volumes Valli is known for.
THE BEAUTY:Barefaced and fresh, the natural look wins the day.
THE SYNOPSIS:The play of masculine and feminine didn't get in the way of the prettiness this designer excels at. Valli's loyal clientele have several new flounced, floral-print party options to choose from and can also add tank tops to their dressing-up repertoire.
