
As part of efforts to reverse the poor health indices and ensure universal health coverage in the
country, the Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said women will no longer die needless death while give life.
Saying, the agency will key in to the Federal Government policy of revitaliing 10,000 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) nation wide.
Dr Shaiub made this known at the inaugural Quarterly Media Interactive Forum held in Abuja, yesterday. He said that, the agency will invest on women and children in Nigeria.
He added that, th agency will employ 200,000 Community Health Workers across the nation and train them on how to take delivery during an emergency to reduce maternal and child mortality.
According to him, the provision of quality healthcare service would reverse the poor health indices in the country.
He said that the key priorities will be on achieving polio eradication; strengthening the routine immunization (RI) system; and revitalization of PHC in Nigeria.
He
added that to strengthening RI, the agency would maximally utilize
government’s social welfare scheme to build an unmatched Village Health
Worker programme for making RI attractive through sustainable demand
generation avenues.
However, the Chairman Board of Trustees,
Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) said the purpose of the
media interaction was to improve openness in the the way Nigeria
government agencies provide services.According to him, the ED NPHCDA, boss have stated that they are going to hold them accountable and transperant and open to Nigerians.
He stated that, they are going to develop score card to track what NPHCDA has promised to do.
CHR is an NGO that addresses the need for improved quality health care services for women and children through advocacy, accountability, mobilization, training, research and information sharing that influence evidenced-based policies and programmes.
