Malam Shehu who said this while fielding questions from journalists at the national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also linked the development to the ongoing war against corruption.
The presidential media aide, who also observed that the contest for 2019 general election was becoming more serious, expressed optimism that ordinary Nigerian still stood with President Buhari despite ceaseless attacks from his adversaries.
“They will continue to fight the president but the happiness we have is that ordinary low level Nigerian understands huge conspiracy against them and they are with the president.
“And that the elite are going places like America, United Kingdom, they are clicks in ports, Abuja, Lagos and some cities in the country, trying to quash the goodwill of the president towards the ordinary Nigerians,” he said.
Shehu who appreciated the current support of the judiciary to the corruption war, highlighted the on-going efforts of the Federal Government to construct roads, build neglected infrastructure like rail lines, provide electricity, rebuild the economy, attract foreign investments, and empower the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He said, “The problem is that the competition of power in the country has become fiercer and fiercer because the stake is very high. I will give you one example. The President has unleashed on the country the war against corruption, the type that had never been seen before. Assets are being recovered from powerful people.
“The president is lucky, he has a judiciary which is transforming itself, which is on the same page with the president in fighting corruption. As I speak to you now, you know that two former state governors are in jail,” he said.
