Customs Officer Kills Two Colleagues In Lagos


Two officers of the Nigeria customs service lost their lives in a very tragic accident on the Lagos-Badagry motorway on saturday.


PUNCH metro learnt that the 2 victims, who were in a very Toyota Camry with the number plate, YLA 121 BJ, were at a stop once they were crushed by their colleague, who drove a Toyota Avalon, with variety plate, YAB 366 JY.

The 3 officers were reportedly connected to the Seme Border Command, Lagos.

While the 2 crushed customs officers died on the spot, the driving force of the Avalon was said to be unconscious at the intensive care Unit of the Badagry General Hospital, wherever he was receiving treatment.

A Punch correspondent gathered that officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, semiconductor diode by the Badagry unit Commander, Fatai Bakare, deposited the remains of the deceased in a mortuary.

A witness aforesaid the accident was caused by a burst tyre. He said, “The incident happened around 7.45am on Saturday at Gbaji stop. The customs officers were crushed to death by a Toyota Avalon driven by another customs officer of identical command.

“His automobile was descending the Gbaji Bridge and heading for Seme when one among his tyres burst. He lost control, thereby causing the 2 officers to their death.”

The customs unit commander, Bakare, however, aforesaid the accident was caused by speeding.

He said, “The customs officers were within their vehicle at one among the checkpoints on the Lagos-Seme Road. the driving force of the Avalon was on high speed when he crashed into them. He veered off the road and rammed into them. the 2 customs officers died on the spot, whereas the person to blame for the accident is in a very coma.”

The Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Seme Command, Saidu Abdulahi, confirmed the incident and known the deceased as Usman and Kabiru.

He additionally confirmed that the driving force of the Avalon was a customs officer and known him as patron saint.

He said, “On Sabbatum, July 14, 2018, I received reports of an occurrence involving 3 officers of the Seme space Command at Gbaji stop. Usman and Kabiru were concerned in a very ghastly motor accident that resulted in their fatalities.

“The driver of the opposite vehicle, George, is presently on admission at a general hospital.”

A doctor at the Badagry General Hospital aforementioned on Sunday that the driving force of the Avalon was still in a very coma, adding that he was being monitored.
