Hundreds of policemen serving in Kaduna State Command,
yesterday, stormed the command headquarters to demand explanation to the
non-payment of their salaries for up to two months....
The policemen, who came
from various formations across the state, stayed in front of the police
quarters peacefully before the state Commissioner of Police, Agyoleh Abeh,
addressed and assured them that efforts were being made to correct the
anomalies. He said the non-payment of salaries of some officers of the force
was not the fault of the police high command but technical issues associated
with the recent migration to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information
system, IPPIS. The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Muktar Aliyu, who
confirmed the incident, however, explained that some policemen, who had issues
with the payment of their salaries, came to seek clarification from the state
command headquarters. According to a police officer, who took part in the
protest, some policemen are being owed two months salaries, while others are
owed for one month without any explanation. He further explained that apart
from being owed salaries, some policemen had been noticing unusual deductions
from their salaries without explanation from police high command. “We decided
to come to the state police command to seek explanation as to why some of our
colleagues have not been paid, while some of us have been noticing unusual
deductions from our salaries. ‘’The commissioner of police addressed us and
explained the circumstance to us. We hope that it will be resolved soon,” the
police office who didn’t want to named for fear of victimisation said. But
reacting to the development, Police Public Relations Officer for Kaduna State
Police Command, ASP Aliyu, said the policemen did not protest but only came to
seek clarification on the status of their salaries. “Some police officers have
not been paid for two months, while others have not been paid for one month.
The issue is not with the police high command and is not restricted to Kaduna State
alone. “About 15 states are affected; it is because of the recent migration to
the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information system, IPPIS, and the issues
associated with it. No policeman protested — Force Hqtrs Also reacting to the
protest, Force Headquarters in a statement issued by spokesman, CSP Jimoh
Moshood, said: ‘’The Force wishes to categorically state that salaries of
Police personnel across ranks throughout the 36 states and the Federal Capital
Territory, Abuja, and all other police formations are being paid as at when due
and on time. “It is not correct and misleading that Police personnel protested
anywhere in the country. A few policemen who went on inquiry to the Mechanized
Salary Section, MSS, in Kaduna State Police Command over complaint of
under-payment, omission of their names on the salary payroll as a result of the
implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System,
IPPIS, handled by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, were
immediately attended to. ‘’They were addressed by the officer in charge of the
Mechanized Salary Section, MSS, Kaduna State Command in the early hours of
today (yesterday) that their problems have been taken up by the Force
Headquarters with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
‘’They left for their duty posts. No policeman protested and none went on
rampage in Kaduna State or anywhere else in the country.”
