The re-election bid of
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state recorded a boost on Friday
following the defection of Chief Ben Nwankwo, from the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).....
The federal lawmaker, who
represents Orumba North and South Constituency at the Federal House of
Representatives, defected with over 2000 PDP members at a rally in
Umunze, Orumba South council area, Anambra state organized by APGA.
He pledged his support and willingness to canvass for votes and ensure victory for Governor Obiano in the November 18 poll.
Nwankwo cited the governor’s
economic policies, especially oil and gas project capable of empowering
the people, improve lives and create millionaires in the state as his
reason for joining the party.
"Obiano is a working Willie, a
winning Willie. Our votes from this area will go to you at all cost
because you rightly deserve another four years. Your opponents are not
your match, they cannot win election in Orumba South.
"We have the political power,
we joined with over 2000 PDP members to APGA, this will improve result
of APGA in the election", Nwankwo said, but added that his supporters be
carried along in all party matters.
Accepting the lawmaker to the
party, Obiano commended him and urged him to work for victory in his
re-election bid as governor of the state.
He charged him and his
supporters to take APGA messages of good governance, better health,
rural development among others to the grassroots.
"We are happy to welcome Hon
Ben. Nwankwo and his large number of supporters into APGA today, we urge
them to team up with our members in the area, canvass for support and
votes for our victory," he said.
Earlier, the former National
chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, charged the people in the area to
reject the PDP because it has nothing to offer the community, saying
that APGA will launch Ndigbo to the forefront of Nigeria affairs.
On his part, former Governor
of CBN, Prof Charles Soludo said that Obiano is working and laying solid
foundation for Anambra to become the heartbeat of Igboland and called
for total support for his re-election.
The defectors were received by
the governor in company of the party National chairman, Chief Victor
Oye, among other top party officials.
