The
Nigeria Army has allayed the fear of the people of the South-West region
on the introduction of the ‘Operation Crocodile Smile’ by the army,
saying the operation was not to torment the people of the region but to
ensure their safety.
The
army also stated that the ‘Operation Crocodile Smile’ would soon
commence in Ondo State to join other security agencies in tackling
criminality.
The
Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier-General James Ataguba
stated this on Thursday during the decoration of two officers of the
Brigade, Ojo Adelegan and Samson Oladunjoye, who were promoted to the
ranks of major.
The
commander declared that the brigade would ensure that the criminals were
sent out of the state through the Operation Crocodile Smile.
He
said, “The operation we had recently in Akoko area where kidnappers’
hideouts were crushed had brought peace to this state. We combed the
nook and cranny of the area .. The operation was a warning to the
criminals and I think they have yielded to the warning.
“There
is no gain say everybody is peace-loving. If the Chief of Army Staff
can be in front at the level of the campaign. We will continue to do it
until those guys are flushed out of this state.
“Python Dance is for Nigeria safety.. We are to complement the effort of police. To make sure everyone is comfortable.
“Also
Crocodile Smile will soon come here in Ondo, it is our next target.
Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear. Crocodile Smile is
not to torment the citizens but to ensure their safety. We will never
rest on our oars. We will continue to do our best. We will remain awake
while our people will sleep.”
In his
remarks at the occasion, the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu,
commended the army and other security agencies in the state for the
recent raid of the kidnappers’ dens and the arrest of some of the
hoodlums in the forest in Akoko area of the state.
Akeredolu,
who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr.
Sunday Abegunde, said the government would continue to collaborate with
all the security agencies in the state so as to ensure that ” our people
go to sleep with their two eyes closed.”
