Wike closes door of negotiations on Atiku .

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has ruled out any last-minute truce between the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the party's G5 governors.

Governor Wike, who made the announcement during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said he owes no one an apology for hosting Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate.

Mr Tinubu, who was in the state for his campaign, paid a visit to Mr Wike after the rally, amid allegations that Mr Wike, a PDP member, had "surreptitiously" urged political appointees in the state to canvass support for the APC candidate.

The governor stated that he was not prepared to mediate peace between the G5 on the one side and Mr. Atiku and the PDP leadership led by its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, on the other.

"No one can do that. It's over! We've said it, and there's nothing anyone can do about it now. They feel they can win the election. "I'm not ready to sit down with anyone else," he remarked.

Mr Wike is the leader of the G5, a group of PDP governors who are unhappy with Atiku and the PDP leadership.

Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Abia) are also members of the group (Enugu).

The organization was formed following Mr Wike's loss to Atiku in the PDP presidential primaries in May of last year.

The group chastised Atiku for allegedly breaking a vow to ensure Mr Ayu's removal as party chairperson. As a prerequisite for supporting Atiku, they want Mr. Ayu to be replaced with a southerner.

Mr. Ayu and Atiku are both northerners, which the group claims is unfair and unjust to the south.

The Rivers governor said the group was aware of Atiku's reception by Enugu State Governor, Mr Ugwuanyi, who is a G5 member, and that the action does not indicate the Enugu governor has quit the group.

Mr Wike commended Bola Tinubu on Wednesday as a man of "character and courage," saying that Nigeria "desperately" needs the APC presidential contender.

Many people may see Mr Wike's statements as an endorsement of Mr Tinubu for the February 25 election.
