The Peace Committee requests INEC to investigate claim of Electoral irregularities

The National Peace Committee has requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) investigate claims of electoral irregularities raised by voters following last Saturday's presidential election.

The NPC issued the announcement in a statement signed by the committee's chairman, Abdussalam Abubakar.

The committee was responding to allegations of irregularities following Saturday's presidential and National Assembly elections.

Mr. Abubakar stated that the commission should defend every Nigerian's vote.

"Nigerians must remember that the world has invested a great deal of goodwill in these elections. We have taken note of the unhappiness expressed by voters who braved the elements to complete their civic obligations. All citizens are entitled to be rewarded by a method that ensures their votes are really counted. "We call to INEC to take note of the complaints, to take the necessary steps to escalate investigations into all allegations of infractions, and to guarantee that justice is served to all Nigerians who voted," the statement stated.

Mr. Abubakar stated that the committee has received reports of voter suppression owing to a variety of causes.

The group has been monitoring happenings since the vote began, according to the former military head of state.

He stated that because the electoral body has admitted the errors, security services must assist INEC in investigating the claims.

"We have received complaints of the culture of voter suppression expressed across the country through the application of targeted violence, interruption of processes, inducement of voters, intimidation, deliberate frustrations of voters and the challenges of the election equipment.

"We are glad that INEC has admitted these mistakes and vowed to correct them. We urge the security agencies to cooperate with INEC in their investigations into these serious claims. Complaints concerning INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) failures throughout the country must be thoroughly probed to ensure transparency," he said.

Mr. Abubakar urged presidential candidates to accept responsibility for the statements made by their spokespersons and agents.

"In the spirit of the Peace Agreement agreed by all Candidates and their Chairmen on February 23, 2023," the NPC urges all Presidential Candidates and Party Chairmen to accept full responsibility for statements made by their Spokespersons and Agents. "We appeal to all of our citizens to be calm while INEC completes its procedure," he said.
