Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Governor has disclosed the real reason for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)'s redesign of the Naira.
Wike stated that the policy was being established to incite the population to engage in public protests that could be used to postpone the upcoming election.
The governor stated that there is already a cabal behind policy implementation, and they are working for the installation of an interim government, which will prevent Nigerians from utilizing permanent voters cards to elect their next leaders.
"The major goal of this program is to incite civil unrest, which they will use to claim they cannot hold elections and push for the installation of an interim administration," he said.
Wike also encouraged Nigerians not to vote for any candidate in the upcoming election who supports the way the currency redesign program is being implemented.
On Saturday, Governor Wike spoke at the Opobo Town Sandfield Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign flag-off event for the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area
The governor stressed that such a candidate is an adversary of Nigerians, who are already experiencing unexplained economic hardship due to the inability to purchase food for their households and gasoline for their automobiles with both old and new Naira notes.
Wike believes President Muhammadu Buhari, who may not have been adequately updated on the pain the Naira exchange is inflicting Nigerians, is already receiving feedback on the ill-advised policy and would reassess its implementation.
"Anyone and everyone who claims to love Nigeria and is running for office while supporting the CBN's agenda. Will you vote for such a person? This anti-people approach is only supported by Nigeria's enemies. President Muhammadu Buhari, I feel, was not properly briefed on this issue."
