Luis Campos, the football advisor for Paris Saint-Germain, says he will be "delighted" if Argentine superstar Lionel Messi agrees to extend his contract with the French champions.
The 35-year-old seven-time Ballon D'Or winner realized his lifelong dream of winning the World Cup in December, but he has continued a solid run of form since returning to France.
He scored a crucial goal in PSG's 3-1 win against Montpellier and then notched his 10th Ligue 1 goal of the season on Saturday as PSG rallied from behind to overcome Toulouse 2-1 despite missing Kylian Mbappe and Neymar through injury.
Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG in 2021, with the option of extending it for another year, after bidding farewell to Barcelona, where he had spent his entire professional career.
"We're talking about it.” I can't hide it; I'd love to have him involved in this initiative, so he can stay with us," Campos told French television station TF1.
"I would be pleased if he did, but we are currently discussing how to achieve that aim, that Leo Messi remains with us."
Campos praised Messi's recent contributions to the team, particularly his performance against Montpellier.
"At half-time I suggested to him 'Leo it is vital you drag the others with you'. He said, 'Keep calm,' and he produced an outstanding second half."
Messi's form is just what PSG needs, as Mbappe's injury will keep him out of their Champions League Last 16 first leg against Bayern Munich on February 14.
"Of course, losing Kylian is difficult; I saw him upset about the injury," Campos added.
"However, then I subsequently observed him working out in the morning so as to recuperate as fast as possible.
"That is the personality of a winner, of someone exceptional. He is already the world's top striker."
