Last Tuesday, LeBron James surpassed legendary center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to take over the NBA regular-season points lead. It is known that the relationship between the current and former Los Angeles Lakers player is not good, nonetheless, the "Captain" was present at Cypto.com Arena to observe the historic moment of the "King".
However, the cameras caught Kareem extremely interested in the game, even clapping as LeBron approached the historic mark, and when it happened, he got up from his seat excited and then was part of the ceremony, even hugging James and symbolically passing him the ball with which he broke the milestone.
According to James Worthy, a previous champion with the Lakers, where Kareem played, and one of his best friends, the originator of the Sky-attitude Hook's was more than just good behavior.
"I mean, Kareem was overwhelmed, and those of you who knew Kareem 30 years ago would understand," Worthy remarked. "Kareem has come full circle in his life and is truly enjoying himself and simply living. He argued records were made to be broken, after all. I don't think he expected anyone to shatter it, but I believe Kareem passed it over with grace."
Worthy was a part of three of the Lakers' five wins, including the second, when he attended LeBron's coronation celebration and stated that it wasn't the ideal experience for him.
""I was a little upset to see the record broken because I just love Kareem; he's my best friend on the team," Worthy remarked. I'm sure he's held it for so long somewhere deep in his heart that it becomes a part of you and you never imagine it'll leave you. He'll certainly miss not being able to say that again, but his body of work will never be forgotten."
