And whilst the Duchess of Sussex may sometimes bend these fashion rules – most recently with a gorgeous tuxedo mini dress – there is one rule neither she or the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton have broken.
According to Grant Harrold – a Royal and British Etiquette Expert – Kate and Meghan have to avoid wearing a particular accessory before 6 o’clock in the evening.
But what could that clothing accessory be?
Grant claims diamond tiaras are prohibited from being worn in the day as they are strictly evening attire.
There can be exceptions if it is a special occasion though, like Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding day.
The Duchess of Sussex’s show-stopping tiara on her big day was lent to her by The Queen and consisted of large and small diamonds and platinum.
Kate Middleton’s latest appearance in a bejewelled tiara was in December 2017, when she attended a ball held by The Queen.
The reason why royals wear tiaras is steeped in tradition, and only married members of the royal family are permitted to don the accessory.
The next royal family member set to wed is Princess Eugenie, although royal fans will have to wait till October to see if she wears one.
