Ex-Policeman Arraigned For Shooting Friend To Death

A High Court in Plateau on Wednesday requested that a previous Police Sergeant, James Moses, 33, who supposedly shot his companion to death, be remanded in restorative focus. 


The Judge, Nafisa Musa, gave the request, following a petition by the indictment counsel, S.O. Emmanuel, to remand Moses as the offense he purportedly dedicated was not a bailable one. 

The judge deferred the issue until March 26, for hearing in the court. 

The respondent argued not blameworthy to the charge. 

Emmanuel asserted that on July 26, 2019, the respondent, while at an unwinding spot at Tudun Wada, Jos North, utilized his administration rifle to fire his companion on his correct rib, which prompted his demise. 

Emmanuel said that the offense negated area 312 of the Penal Code, culpable with death upon conviction. 

The litigant, notwithstanding, in his announcement to the police, guaranteed that he shot his companion accidentally during an embrace. 

"I didn't intend to execute him. I was at a lager joint when he came to meet me, I had my rifle stayed nearby my neck and the slug released. 

"I overlooked totally about it and ignorant that it was not on security hold. My hand erroneously contacted the trigger when my companion came to embrace me and it went off, executing him all the while; it was not purposeful," Moses said.
