MARKS And Spencer's Sweets Percy Pigs Are Reportedly Going To Be Banned.

Percy Pigs could be banned following reports Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt is leading a review into sugary sweets and drinks which use cartoon characters as promotion......
Marks and Spencer’s Percy Pigs could be removed from shelves and completely repackaged in a new design as part of the challenge to tackle childhood obesity.

The Sun reports plans are currently being examined by government ministers to prevent "licensed characters, cartoon characters and celebrities" to promote junk food.

Unlimited refills for sugary drinks in restaurants such as Nando’s could come to an end.

Percy Pigs have been in Marks and Spencer for over 25 years, and they have proved so popular the store even sells Percy Pig merchandise, including cuddly toys and children’s books.

Health Secretary Hunt is said to be leading the review into sugary drinks and sweets

Marks and Spencer stopped selling Percy Pigs at till points in 2015.

The current review apparently also shows plans to ban supermarkets from selling sweets and chocolates near the tills, in a bid to stop children asking their parents to buy them.

Cereal characters Tony the Tiger and the Honey Monster could also be banned if the move goes ahead.

The Sun claim National Obesity Forum chair Tam Fry said: "I’m thoroughly pleased at the prospect of cartoon characters being divorced from junk food."

He added: "We need to associate these popular children’s characters with in-your-face good food."
