One of the sources said the downsizing would mostly affect surplus staff whose responsibilities could be undertaken by others.
“There are people who are just coming to party secretariat on daily basis with no clear-cut tasks. The restructuring will surely affect this category of people. The development will also affect a certain director. He was actually told not to be part of the meeting yesterday,” the source said.
Another source said one of the outcomes of the meeting was an agreement reached on the working hours for the staff. The staff would now work between 9am and 5pm on daily basis.
Daily Trust also learnt that the six zonal national vice chairmen had been told to open offices in their zones for independent operations.
It was further gathered that the six zonal vice chairmen would no longer enjoy a situation whereby their aides would be drawing salaries at the national headquarters of the party.
Oshiomhole while resuming office had promised the workers that he would not allow the directors to oppress them.
“We will ensure that you are compensated. You will work really hard and you will be visible majority. To directors, I will also work closely with you,” he said.
