According to a family statement issued to The Blast, he was left heartbroken over the death of Kate from an apparent suicide.

The family revealed how he had been “failing health of late” and was “heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter”.

He died at home surrounded by his family.

Iconic fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead at the age of 55 in her New York apartment on 5 June.

And following speculation, it’s now been confirmed that the renowned fashion genius – who leaves behind husband of 24 years, Andy Spade, and their 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix – died from suicide.

It was officially confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office to the New York Times on Thursday morning.

Breaking his silence for the first time since his wife’s death, husband Andy also confirmed in a statement made to The New York Times that Kate was suffering from depression, as well as downplaying reports that the pair were divorcing.

He said: “Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives.

“We were in touch with her the night before and she sounded happy. There was no indication and no warning that she would do this.”
