You will soon be undergoing rhinoplasty to correct a medical issue....
The good news is that the procedure will improve the quality of your life.
To ensure things go the way they should, it pays to make some preparations in advance.
Here are five essential tasks you should address in the days and weeks leading up to the procedure.
Stop Smoking
If you smoke, now is the time to quit. While there are all sorts of good reasons to give up the habit, there is one that stands out in your present situation.
Nicotine interferes with the healing process. If you want your recovery to proceed without any complications, making sure the nicotine is out of your system is a good start.
Try to have at least two weeks without smoking under your best before the day of your rhinoplasty.
Discontinue Use of Supplements and Over the Counter Products
Any type of invasive procedure means the potential loss of blood. That includes any form of plastic surgery like the one you are having.
Your surgeon can provide a list of the over the counter products and herbal supplements that you should avoid for at least a couple of weeks before the procedure.
Doing so will ensure that your blood will not be so thin that the natural clotting process can’t happen.
Buy Lip Balm and Plenty of Your Favorite Beverages
During your recovery period, your breathing will be done through the mouth. That can lead to quite a bit of dryness. In the days leading up to the procedure, stop by the store and pick up plenty of lip balm.
You also want a supply of several different beverages to enjoy.
Keep in mind that not all beverages are helpful for keeping the mouth moist. Try to include more beverages with some nutritional value but less caffeine.
Your body could use more nutrients during the recovery period and drinks with lower levels of caffeine will help maintain a reasonable amount of moisture in your mouth.
Prepare Your Home
One of the things you will not be doing for a while after the procedure is lifting things. Now is the time to do any cleaning that would involve hauling around supplies.
You also want to get the grocery shopping out of the way.
These two things will eliminate the most common forms of lifting you do and allow you to enjoy some peace and quiet while you recover.
Arrange Transportation
Arrange for someone to do the driving to and from the procedure. You will not be in any condition to get behind the wheel once the work is done. In fact, it will be several days before it would be prudent to drive.
Having someone to take you to and from the surgery, and possibly someone who can drive you back for the follow up visit, is something that should be settled ahead of time.
There are more things you should do prior to the procedure.
The surgeon will provide you with a list. Go over it carefully and follow it to the letter. Doing so decreases the odds of complications and enhances the chances that your recovery will be a swift one.
