Two Persons In Plateau Killed By Gunmen

Two persons were ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen in Wereng-Kum village of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.....

Daily Sun gathered that the incident occurred at about 11:00p.m., on Sunday night, leaving Bulus Dantoro, 35, and a 28-year-old Dung Christopher who were returning home on motorcycle death.
Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) ASP Tyopev Matthias Terna confirmed the incident and said the victims were macheted to death with knives and machetes by yet to identify gunmen.
Terna added that the death bodies were recovered in the scene at about 8:15 am yesterday morning by miners who were on their way to mining camp.
He said the police recovered two sticks belonging to the gunmen and a motorcycle belonging to the deceased persons in the scene and said investigation is on to fish out the perpetrators.
Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Danboyi Jugul, called on the Federal Government to intervene on the killing of his people before they are wipe out.
He said several persons have been ambushed and killed by suspected gunmen in the last one week and no arrest has been made.
General Secretary of Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO), Davou Choji Davou, said Federal and State Government have abandoned his people to their fate, who are being killed maim on daily basis by suspected herdsmen.
He called on the United Nations to investigate the killing of innocent persons in Plateau and begged them to direct Federal Government to take proactive steps to curtail the killings.
“we are constrained to call on the United Nations, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, ECOWAS Commission and all other international bodies that promote and defend freedoms, liberties, rights and identities of indigenous and autochthonous peoples to treat the case of the Berom on the Plateau as a typical case of genocide and systematic ethnic cleansing.
“BECO on its part has continued to voice out, document and report the prosecution of this agenda to the National Security Adviser’s Office, the Governor and all other security outfits right up to the highest level of government, in hope that the perpetrators of these crimes will be ‘fished’ out and brought to justice.
“We therefore conclude that silence on the part of security agencies and government is a tacit endorsement of the bloody massacres and heinous crimes visited on the Berom and on some of our neighbouring communities? More so, these ugly events continue to occur with no government sending in relief and support, neither do they make condolence visits, particularly in these very difficult times.”
