THE MESSAGE:"It was very personal to me to create a wardrobe for women in high summer, where it's hot but you're in the city and your clothes have to stay versatile," said designer Julie de Libran.....
Her spring/summer 2018 Sonia Rykiel collection was all about, stylish pieces with a strong Parisienne inflection. Versatility was also a key theme. These were clothes you could wear anywhere and in many different ways.

THE SCENE:The cloister of a Left Bank art school, lined with classical sculptures. Afterwards the audience poured into the courtyard where De Libran mingled and the children of the Rykiel atelier, including the designer's son, bounced about on huge pink inflatable.

THE COLLECTION:Sonia Rykiel is the place to find versatile, feminine pieces with a go-anywhere feel. Tailoring was lightweight, relaxed and oversized. Some blazers lost their sleeves altogether, others were worn over bikinis for a new spin on the beach cover-up. Jumpsuits were cut like overalls but came in supple, silky stripes or Vichy checks (translation: gingham). De Libran knows how to make appealing clothes. After seeing this show, you can add a crochet dress to your summer wish list. She also covered the trend for colourful sequins, boyish shorts and satin lingerie-inspired dresses. The main embellishment was pearls, they spelled out "Rykiel" across a signature stripe jumper, nestled on belts and swung from fringed dresses. "An oyster creates such beauty, it was about beauty," said de Libran, who mingled with the crowd in the courtyard after the show.

THE BEAUTY:Hair was set in beachy waves, skin was sun-kissed and lips were brick red or natural and peachy.

THE SYNOPSIS:The overall impression was of a woman free in her clothes, unhindered and uninhibited.
