Contrasted by the dark set, Armani made his point through the magic of light, reflecting it in sparkly sequins on dresses and tailoring capturing his trademark linearity. Then, he sent out a tailoring segment entirely executed in glistening silver, turning up the volume on his nighttime glamour where the heels were just that inch higher, the make-up that little bit more dramatic. If there's been a sinister undertone to the season's party spirit, Armani nailed it with an almost religious veiled procession of black, crystal-embellished looks - an unexpectedly darkly theatrical moment in the show, which almost had a whiff of Memento Mori to it. Shimmering in the spotlights, you could say Armani was deflecting the unsettled disposition of our times.It was an interesting move for the designer, newly returned from London where he showed a bright, light and optimistic Emporio Armani collection that served as the very contrast to this morning's dark opulence at Giorgio Armani. Perhaps he was conveying different messages to different people; today's collection bringing a certain mindfulness to his older audience, while Emporio Armani served to encourage the youth market to snap out of the gloom and doom
