Amosun Knocked the Cancelling Of WAEC Fee Payment

A gubernatorial aspirant in Ogun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jimi Lawal, has knocked a recent move by the Ogun State Government to stop the payment of WAEC fees for final year secondary school students in the state......

According to Lawal, the move was not only wrong, it will draw back educational development of Ogun State, noting “education which is the bedrock of every sector, should not only be made free from primary through secondary school, but be compulsory”.He, however, said that if given the mandate in 2019, he would ensure that basic education is free from primary to secondary level in the state.
Lawal spoke, on Monday, at the investiture of the new President of Olive Circle held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.Lawal, who is a Senior Adviser to Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, noted further that “it saddens me that the legacy of our father, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, is fading – the legacy that preaches that basic education should be free for all.
“Education is the bedrock of every sector. Therefore, basic education should be free and compulsory for all in Ogun state and that is what we’ll ensure if given the opportunity to serve the good people of Ogun State”.He, however, bemoaned the abandonment of multi-billion dollar Olokola Free Trade Zone project in Ogun Waterside Local Government, which he said it is capable of generating employment for thousands of citizens of the state.
He added that if elected into office, his administration would revive the project noting “the project will play a very important role in the economic development of Ogun State”.
Lawal, however, commended the Ibikunle Amosun-led administration for its giant strides in boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, pledging to improve on the economic performance of the state given its position as the “twin of Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos State”.
“Ogun State has the largest deposit of limestone in Nigeria, and unfortunately the biggest cement factory is no longer here; it is in Obajana, Kogi State. Ogun State shares the natural deepest seaport in Nigeria with Ondo State at Olokola, and we’ll revive that project along with the Cargo Airport at Ilishan. There are so many things we have worked on that would make Ogun State the most prosperous and economically viable state per capita in Nigeria”, Lawal submitted.
