 Elsa Iradukunda, a senior-six graduate from King David High School, bested 15 finalists to be crowned the title of Miss Rwanda 2017 at the conclusion of the national pageant held at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (former Camp Kigali).
By winning the title, Elsa Iradukunda will be given a prize of a brand new Suzuki Swift worth Rwf15 million from Cogebanque, a local bank which is the main sponsor of the pageant. In addition to that, ELsa will also be receiving monthly salary of Rwf 800,000 and many other awards. However, which is most important to Elsa is the chance to represent her country at the upcoming Miss World 2017 pageant where the reigning Miss World 2016 Stephanie del Valle will crown her successor.Elsa Iradukunda’s court includes the first runner-up Guelda Shimwa, the second runner-up Linda Umutoniwase, the third runner-up Queen Kalimpinya and the fourth runner-up Fanique Umuhoza Isimbi.For special awards, Nadia Umutesi became Miss Photogenic, Elsa Iradukunda became Miss Congeniality, Guelda Shimwa become Miss Heritage, and Honorine Hirwa Uwase became Miss Popularity.According to organizers, this year’s contest included a talent show besides the catwalk and question-and-answer sessions in which contestants had to showcase their talents through dancing, singing and comedy. Especially, all the 15 finalists of the pageant will be awarded full scholarships to pursue undergraduate degrees at Mahatma Ghandhi University.
