Prince performs during the 2007 NCLR ALMA Awards held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on June 1, 2007 in Pasadena, Calif.
For the first time since his death last April, an official traveling exhibit of Prince
memorabilia will go on display in London in October. The 21-day "My
Name is Prince" showcase will visit London's O2 Arena beginning Oct. 27
and "give fans the chance to get up close and personal with the music
legend's life and work" according to a release announcing the run.
"This is the first time we’ve taken any items out of Paisley Park," Prince's sister Tyka Nelson told The Guardian.
"I'm so excited to be able to meet the fans and share their Prince
stories and give them hugs, and have a cry with them if need be." Prince
died of an overdose of prescription pain medication in April of 2016 at
age 57. Paisley Park has become a museum since his death and the
director of the singer's archive, Angie Marchese, told the Guardian that the singer had always pictured making his home and his vast collection of memorabilia open to the public.
The exhibit will run for 21 days, in honor of the record-breaking run of 21 sold-out shows Prince played at the O2 in August and September of 2007. Tickets for the show go on sale at 9 a.m. on Aug. 25.
