NANS Burns Over ASUU Strike, Vows to Shutdown Nigeria in 21 days

The National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed anger over the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to embark on indefinite strike..

The students called on the Federal Government to urgently address the plight of the lecturers.
The students’ union said that the Federal Government has 21 days to address the agitating issue it has with ASUU, and threatened that failure to address the issue within the given period of time will leave Nigerian students with no other option than to ground all activities in the country.
This was contained in a statement the national president of NANs, Mr Chinonso Obasi, made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.
He said, “It is with deep pain and regret that NANS received the news of another indefinite strike by ASUU over the Federal Government’s indifference to their plight.
“Nigerian students see the breakdown in negotiations as a further proof that political leaders don’t care about their future. Consequently, we wish to call on the Federal Government to do all it can to get ASUU back to the classrooms.

“Consequently, we wish to call on the Federal Government to do all it can to get ASUU back to the classrooms. The demands of ASUU are reasonable and touch on the integrity of government, especially in the light of the fight against corruption.”
He went further to say that “in the light of the foregoing the Federal Government has 21 days to resolve outstanding issues with ASUU in the interest of long-suffering Nigerian students”, adding that if by the expiration of 21days ultimatum, the issue was not resolved that Nigerian students would be forced to ground activities in the country.
ASUU on Monday embarked on an indefinite strike on the claims that the Federal Government has refused to honor the agreement it entered with it eight years ago.
