A highly placed source in the Presidency, who disclosed this, said those making the move are mostly members of PDP, who left their former party at the eve of the 2015 general elections.
Though he acknowledged these former PDP members worked for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, he added that their disposition at the moment shows that they are not happy with the APC-led Federal Government because they are yet to be compensated in terms of appointments.
His words: “Yes, it is true that some members of APC are looking for a way back to PDP, but I must make it clear to you that they are mostly those who joined us from PDP.
“Most of them have been in power since 1999, but as a result of their inability to manoeuvre their ways back to positions after the inauguration of the Buhari administration, they are scheming to return to their former party, especially now that the party’s leadership crisis has been resolved.”
The move by the aggrieved APC members is on the heels of plans by PDP to reconcile with its former members who have joined the ruling party.
Chairman of PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who revealed the plan recently, said no stone would be left unturned to bring back those who defected to other parties.
Speaking at the inauguration of three special committees aimed at repositioning the party, Makarfi charged the reconciliation committee to bring back to the fold, former political office holders, who were elected on the platform of the party.
New Telegraph had, some months back, reported the anxiety within the ruling party as members who helped Buhari become president, complained of neglect and disappointment.
The report revealed that party officials were angry that members, who worked for APC’s victory in the 2015 general elections, have been neglected almost two years after the polls.
APC’s state chairmen and national officers, under the aegis of Non-National Working Committee (NWC) members, had then in their separate communications to the APC leadership and President Buhari, also decried the delay by the party in filling vacant positions in the state executives across the country.
The forum, in the letter copied to APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governors Abubakar Yari (Zamfara) and Rochas Okorocha (Imo), as well as Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, among others, called on President Buhari to take interest in the affairs of the party before it is too late.
But, advising the aggrieved APC chieftains plotting a return to the PDP to have a rethink, the source, who is a presidential aide, said the wastages associated with the immediate past PDP government have been curbed by the Buhari administration.
He was apparently hinging the frustration of the affected APC members on their inability to have access to pecuniary benefits that usually come with appointments of politicians into government agencies and parastatals.
He disclosed that even those who got appointed into various positions by President Buhari are strictly in offices to render service as the conduct of government business is no longer the way it used to be during the PDP administration.
His words: “It is no longer business as usual. It is not enjoyment and lavish lifestyles as it used to be during the immediate past PDP government. You won’t believe that two years after this government was inaugurated, most presidential aides have no official accommodations or vehicles.”
