The defaulters, who were apprehended at various locations in Uyo metropolis and the adjoining areas by a combination of security operatives and a special sanitation force from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, were arraigned before the state’s sanitation court.
The exercise, which commenced at 7.00 am, was coordinated by members of staff of the ministry, vigilance organizations, sanitation workforce officials and a retinue of security operatives.
Led by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Iniobong Essien, members of the team converged at the popular Ibom Plaza from where they moved to various parts of the state to monitor and ensure compliance to the exercise.
Essien told journalists that he was happy with the success of the exercise, noting that 80 per cent target was reached.
