A woman is threatening to divorce her husband of 30 years because
of a bizarre habit. It was gathered that the man is in the habit of
unwittingly kicking and punching her in his sleep.
According to reports, the woman filed a case of domestic abuse charges against her 60-year-old partner, surnamed Wu.
Wu, from Taichung City in West Taiwan, however said he began
talking in his sleep about 10 years ago, sadly, he now unknowing kicks
and punches his wife in his sleep using his legs and arms.
After having finally checked himself into the Kuang Tian General
Hospital, Wu was told that he suffers from REM sleep behaviour
disorder.
Speaking on the incident, Doctor Yang Chun-bei said, the disorder
causes Wu to physically act out his dreams instead of just letting them
play out in his mind like regular humans do.
The odd behaviour happens only during deep REM sleep – short for “rapid eye movement” – which is when dreaming occurs.
Wu spent several days at the hospital’s sleep studies centre, where cameras trained on his bed revealed his nightly “kung fu” adventures.
Wu said his activities sometimes become so intense that he “flies” out of bed screaming and shouting, terrifying his wife.
