It will be recall that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, last two weeks gave Governor Al-Makura, the go ahead to sale the landed properties seen as constituting liabilities to the state.
The state executive council, two days later after the state assembly’s resolution, approved the sale of the assets, but the PDP kicked against the move insisting that it was a grand ploy to mortgage the future of the state.
Addressing newsmen in Lafia, APC, led by Phillip Tatari Shekwo, the state chairman, said the move was proper in view of the fact that the said properties are in deplorable state.
“As the ruling party in the state, we commend Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, for this vision and initiative to save the state from unnecessary financial burden and outright loss of properties through dilapidation and illegal occupation that these so called assets have become.
“Over the years these properties were left to rot by previous governments of the PDP and now, some of these properties have become near obsolete and any possible attempt to fix them will only gulp funds running into billions of naira, and this is definitely not the time to expend the scarce resources on unviable venture.
“Secondly, we applaud our distinguished legislators in the State House of Assembly for their foresight and support for this laudable initiative by the governor”, the party said.
APC argued that the properties are no longer viable to the people of the state and the best that the state government could do was to dispose them.
