Chief Medical Director, CMD, of Nnamdi Azikiwe University
Teaching Hospital NAUTH, Nnewi, Prof. Anthony Igwegbe, yesterday said that of
the 26 victims of St Philips Catholic Church Ozubulu attack by gunmen who were
admitted, only eight victims are still receiving treatment in the hospital.
Prof Igwegbe spoke in an interview shortly after the opening ceremony of the
ongoing four-day Service Compact With All Nigerians, SAVICOM, training at NAUTH
Nnewi. He said: “About eight are still in the hospital because they have bone
injuries and it takes time to heal. Some had gone for first surgery and some
need a second surgery, while others have large infected wounds that are taking
some time to heal. We are glad that we have not lost any other person since
that time, we are managing them perfectly.“Some have been going home quietly,
and the remaining cases are what the hospital can handle. There is no need to
take them abroad for further treatment, because we are equal to the challenge.
None of them is beyond our capability and the facilities are here, and I am
happy that we are able to put our acts together and manage them effectively.”
Earlier in his opening address during the SERVICOM training, the CMD said:
“While recognizing that the institution was appreciated for the team work and
the attitude workers exhibited when the victims of St Philips Catholic Church
Ozubulu were brought to the hospital, there is need to continue to improve our services
to the patients, that is why we are organizing this SERVICOM training.” “The 4
day ongoing SERVICOM Training in the institution, is also to bring the workers
back to effective health service delivery, having noticed a little slide from
the workers, it became very imperative that we need to be reenergized by having
a retreat and then come back to move on further. “Not that we are not doing
well, but we want to do better, that is why the training become necessary for
the workers especially, the Departmental and Units Heads of the hospital, from
time to time, just as you go to Church to get spiritual upliftment as often as
possible, and rededicate yourself to duty.” Chief Executive and National
Coordination SERVICOM, Abuja, Mrs. Nnenna Akajimeli in her good will message
told the workers that they will built a legacy for themselves if they do their
work diligently, and urged them not to be people who wait for when things start
happening before they make their own input, but be people who start initiate things.
In a address presented by the NAUTH SERVICOM Nodal Officer, Comrade Kris Ngige,
said “NAUTH SERVICOM thrust anchors on the implementation of Federal
Governments service delivery initiative of prompt, efficient, effective,
affordable, honest, professional and transparent services to the citizens”
Chief Executive for Center for Focus Academy, Mrs. Chinwe Ebele in a lecture
titled: “Change in Mindset: Time and Material Management as a Key to enhancing
hospital transformation” urged the workers to Chairman Medical Advisory
Committee, CMAC, NAUTH, Dr Evarestus Afiadigwe, in a lecture titled,
“Attitudinal change, a panacea for improved service delivery”, Mrs. Jummai
Abdulahi from SERVICOM office Abuja, in her own titled, “Leadership and Change
Management, and Mr. Ikeoha Chukwuma from ICPC South East Zonal Office
“Fundamentals of integrity and its entrenchment in service delivery”
respectively urged the workers to maintain positive and ownership attitude to
their work, and to take collective responsibility in the face of failure.
