Organized Labor in Benue State on
Tuesday shut down government offices across the state as workers
embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their salaries
for eight and 11 months for state and local government workers
respectively...
Our correspondent, who visited the state
secretariat and offices of parastatals within the capital city,
reported that all offices were under lock and key.
Labour leaders had last weekend directed
workers in the state to embark on an indefinite strike due to the
failure of the state government pay salary arrears after seven-day
warning.
At the state secretariat, labour officials were seen enforcing the strike.
Also, the situation was not different at
the offices of the Secretary to the State Government, Radio Benue, and
the state Assembly complex. Schools visited were deserted.
Reports from some local government areas in the state indicated that the strike was total.
The NLC boss stated that the strike would only be suspended when substantial part of the outstanding salaries was paid.
