Armani is one such maestro who seemingly has this in the bag. Take his front row for example, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet sat alongside 82-year old Sophia Loren (who looked so radiant it’s impossible to fathom she’s actually 82), while the entire show was dedicated to another stalwart of style – Franca Sozzani, the late Italian Vogue editor-in-chief.
It certainly can’t be said for every couture house but every woman of every age can find something at Armani, and for every occasion to boot – whether it be a power suit for the boardroom or a sensational gown for the red carpet – he ticks all boxes, and he did so again with his collection today.
He opened with a series of pastel looks comprising snugly tailored jackets that seemed to trace every curve and contour of a woman’s torso with pressed crease front trousers, before presenting a procession of dazzling hit makers, like a crystal top set alight with a cascade of ostrich feathers, a one-shouldered gown dripping in pink and blue sequins, and plenty of classic black – because doesn’t every woman love black? – from big skirted ball gowns to tiered tulle wonders suspended from spaghetti straps to frothy capes, and shimmering sequined trouser suits. It had it all.
