No less than 30 detainees serving their different prison terms at the Jos Correctional Center are right now taking part in the progressing November/December Senior School Certificate Examination, an authority has said.
ASC Martha Banda, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Plateau Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), unveiled this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos.
As indicated by Banda, the 30 prisoners, who are sitting for the assessment sorted out by National Examination Council (NECO) inside the remedial office, comprise of 28 guys and 2 females.
She clarified that the move was a piece of the command of the Service designed for making the detainees valuable to themselves, families and society in the wake of serving their prison terms.
"This is a piece of our command to help the renewal procedure of prisoners so they can be valuable to themselves and the general public in the wake of serving their prison term.
"As the maxim 'information is control', the quintessence of including a school inside the jail yard is to change the prisoners with aptitudes and give them formal instruction also," she said.
Banda expressed gratitude toward people, NGOs, strict bodies and government organizations that gave the assets used to enroll the detainees for the assessment.
NAN reports that the assessment which started on Nov. 18 would end on Dec. 18.
