Ethiopia's parliament today affirmed Sahle-Work Zewde as the nation's new president, the main lady to hold the post.

Sahle-Work is at present U.N. under-secretary-general and uncommon agent of the secretary general to the African Union.

She replaces Mulatu Teshome Wirtu, who offered his acquiescence to parliament prior on Wednesday.

Fitsum Arega, Chief of staff to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed portrayed the arrangement of Zewde as noteworthy.

In a tweet today, Arega stated: "In a notable move, the two Houses have chosen Ambassador Shale work Zewde as the following President of #Ethiopia.

"She is the primary female head of state in present-day Ethiopia. A profession ambassador and senior authority at the UN, she conveys the correct capability and experience to the workplace.

"In a male-centric culture, for example, our own, the arrangement of a female head of state sets the standard for the future as well as standardizes ladies as chiefs in broad daylight life".
