The Senate has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to investigate the suspension of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) support and withdrawal charges by banks.
This was after a movement on "illegal and unreasonable charges by Nigerian banks in clients accounts" was raised by Senator Gbenga Ashafa amid the whole session on Wednesday.
Agent Senate President Ike Ekweremadu favored the movement, saying: "The ATM charge isn't the main charge we get from the bank, there are VAT charges et cetera; this is unsatisfactory. We have the Customer Protection Agency in Nigeria, yet they are not satisfying desires."
The issue produced much discussion on the floor of the Senate and after much considerations, a couple of goals were made.
