Sian played the role of Gennie Walker on the ITV soap from 2008 to 2013.
She arrived in the village in search of her biological parents which led her to her biological dad Shadrach Dingle.
As her adoptive mum Brenda also made a move to the village, Gennie settled in and soon started a relationship and later marriage with Nikhil Sharma, played by Rik Makarem.
However, Gennie's life came to a shocking end when she was murdered by Cameron Murray, played by Dominic Power, after being involved in a car accident with him and Debbie Dingle.
It is not known what role Sian will play in the hit BBC crime drama, written by Jed Mercurio, but she will be joined by a whole host of new faces.
Actors Taj Atwal, Richard Pepple, Susan Vidler, Ace Bhatti and Elizabeth Rider have also been confirmed as cast members.
Meanwhile, newcomer Stephen Graham has been confirmed as Balaclava man.
Ahead of the drama's highly anticipated return, viewers will watch Vicky McClure's DS Kate Fleming, DS Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar's Supt.
Ted Hastings investigate John and his accomplice Lisa McQueen – played by Rochenda Sandall – following an explosive chain of events.
