Users of Apple devices will once again be able to provide a "tip" to content providers they like on Tencent's instant messaging service WeChat again after Tencent settled a dispute with Apple....
Zhang Xiaolong, creator of WeChat, revealed this on Monday at an event held in Guangzhou.
"Sending red packets and providing a 'tip' are great Chinese characteristics. It may be hard for Apple to understand this. We reached a consensus with Apple after dealing with this over the past year. It will be very soon that our users will be able to providing a 'tip' through WeChat," said Zhang during a lecture.
The "tipping" function on WeChat gave users the option of donating a small amount of money to authors on their individual accounts after reading an article.
The function was shut down in April last year as it was deemed in violation of the in-app purchase (IAP) rules set by Apple.
Zhang also says Wechat is inventing a separate app for WeChat official accounts, which will be released in the future.
Through it, authors on WeChat official accounts will be able to edit their content on both computers and mobile phones.
